I had always wanted to visit Petersham Nurseries, having heard plenty of good things about it. A garden-centre, come tea house, come award-winning cafe, it's an all-afternoon destination, allowing yourself enough time to wander, drink tea, and have a delicious meal.
The Teahouse serves freshly baked cakes, coffee, and a good list of speciality teas that you can enjoy in the large glasshouse, surrounded by different plants, shrubs, flowers and seeds to buy in further smaller outhouses. There's even a sleepy looking cat that will lure you off the path but I've heard he's prone to swiping at you with his claws suddenly, so do be careful of this little kitty.

A short walk along the river from Richmond station, and through lush green paddocks, Petersham Nurseries is easily reached by bus, too.
If you're looking for ceramics and textiles from independent makers, you'll be delighted to discover the incredible wares that are on sale here and curated beautifully throughout the main store.
An evergreen world of curios, and officially a new favourite place to people-watch.
