Coronavirus in Canterbury - What Now?

We're in an unpredictable, difficult time, though this article is not to dwell on the darkness, but look to the light of what we can do. I have tried to compile a list of different solutions to some of the basic problems we are facing as a city and in the villages beyond: where to secure food and how to support small, local businesses.

The Goods Shed

Offering a local delivery service (15 miles but do enquire for case-by-case if you are further afield) that includes: local meat, fresh fish, fruit and veg, cheese, wine, store cupboard goods, fresh bread, deli meats, milk, yoghurt, honey, alcohol and more - you can find the current list here or stay tuned to their Facebook and Instagram pages for regular updates. They are currently also open to the public. For enquiries and orders, contact susanna@thegoodsshed.co.uk or call 01227459153

All of their vendors are still in action for visitors or takeaway: Gill's Delicatessen for coffee and fresh salads, Jonny Sandwich for, well, sandwiches, Docker for beer and so on

USP: Freeze-able, boil-in-a-bag meals from their restaurants chef from £6.95

The Veg Box, Burgate

Offering a weekly subscription delivery in two sizes £120 (for four ppl) or £60 (for two ppl). Includes dried and tinned goods, toilet paper, ready-made vegetarian meals, bread, milk, veg and dips and more. Call 01227456654.

USP: Never knowingly run out of fresh houmous

The Unicorn Inn, St Dunstan's

Let the pub come to you. Takeaway pints, pizzas and burgers for collection.

Jack's Veg, Canterbury

USP: Fill your empty box with food donations for the Food Bank and they'll collect

Edible Culture, Faversham

Who knows how long this will last for. If you have a garden, why not grow your own for yourself and others? Edible Culture will deliver seeds and plants in Faversham, but do give them a call to find out more 01795537662

USP: Take the matter into your own hands while getting some calming fresh air

Sondes Tea House, Selling

This beautiful old pub transformed into a tea house and general stores has literally opened its windows and started selling through them. Pick up lunch, cake, essential groceries and more.

USP: Has lots of gorgeous gifts to cheer people up with or for Mother's Day.
