Your Body The Sea (Pt. 1) | #CapturedInWords

Today I sat on a cold shingle beach
Covered by a sky that came without a hem.
Knitted with clouds it was not;
An expanse of grey; flat and peerless.

Closing my eyes I listened to the waves
In the way that I listen to my breath
 Or my heartbeat
When I'm anxious
Shutting off all else
Boring into the reassurance of repetition.

'A wave is a breath' I thought.
The ssh sound of sand swept into submission
There, there. There, there. There, there.
Drawing the shore into its depths.
Each breath, regular, a hushed lullaby
Echoed at the frill of the deep.
