We Need a Boatman | #CapturedInWords

Place your brackets around me
Around us
(And especially around yourself)
We'll be safe there
On your made-man sun

Manacle me with conditions
Forge those cumbersome chains
So I have to drag you with me
Pitched against the quiet protestation
Of a better will
Our kiss soldering fate
Joined in your smoldering hate

You would destroy me
Take me with you
Just to drown
In good company
To fall in love with another reflection
Facing back at you
In the lake of our blood
You'd spill from our wrists
If you could

Place my arms around you
Around us
(Anywhere but myself)
We'll be safe there
In my love
My moon without reason

Silence your fears
With my magnificent breast
Fill you
With my milk
Until you're a fat babe
Rocked in my arms

I would smother you
Keep you fixed to me
To drown you
In good company
To deny myself of the love
I've been told to earn
Before I can keep you
Or anyone
If I could

There's a river between your world
And mine
For which the boatmen charge
Handsomely the fare
On a ride for two

To sit side by side
Not wretchedly fused
Like ball to chain
Or babe to breast
But hand hinged in hand

My moon to the left
Your sun to the right
Our journey the seam
That dissolves the banks

#CapturedInWords

I have a terrible habit of never finishing what I set out to write and you know what? That’s fine. For me, writing is a progressive, evolutionary act and so I try to publish in short, first drafts to give myself less of a hard time and the freedom to capture whatever I feel at a given time.

You can follow along on Instagram with the hashtag. I’d love it if you added your own, too.
