Sala Montjuic, Barcelona

Stuck for things to do in Barcelona for less than a tenner? Tired of staying indoors where it's a total sweat-fest? WELL... get yourself down (or rather, up) to Sala Montjuic where you can enjoy the glorious surroundings of the castle, see some live music AND a movie for the bargain price of 5€ (5.50€ if you book online).
With your pals, pool your remaining 5€ and pack yourself a basket of treats to nibble upon. I personally like to take cheese, chorizo, bread, tomatoes and a nice bottle of vino tinto (red wine). Don't forget to take a blanket to sit on and a cardigan to keep away the mountain breeze or simply wrap yourself in the arms of a friend or a loved one. You can always also hire a chair for 3€.
All films are shown in their original version with Spanish subtitles and are introduced by charming short movies. The cinema closes on the 8th of August and in the meantime, you can catch viewings of the following films:

  • Even the Rain
  • Incendies
  • The Third Man
  • Inception
  • Gran Torino
Catch the bus from the towers at Plaza Espanya from 20:30 and whizz your way up to the top. Alternatively, you could always put your best foot forward and take a lengthy stroll... I personally like to take the bus up and stroll back down in the dusky midnight light.
